Just in case some of you don't watch the news, a major polygamist compound has been recently infiltrated by government officials. 416 women and children (alleged victims of sexual abuse) were rescued from the compound.
OK, so, I'm all for freedom of religion--so long as it does not lead to the maltreatment of living beings (*hint* woman and children). The real shocker is the rescued mother's perception of the fiasco. Apparently, these woman feel as if the the government has misled them into believing that their children would be returned shortly. In truth, the children were placed into federal or state custody. This is because officials suspect that the mothers are a safety risk to the children. Evidently, because the mothers were raised in the isolated environment, they feel a need to enforce the horrid way of life (in which they are deemed inferior to men) upon their innocent children.
That's CNN's analysis. I agree. But I'll add an extra two cents: the women are terrified for their safety and their children's safety and are defending the compound in hopes of avoiding further punishment from their ungrateful husbands.
Fair evaluation?
I read this on CNN, "...A child protection supervisor on Thursday testified she encountered several pregnant teen girls at a polygamist ranch who called each other 'sister wives' and who believed it was acceptable to be "spiritually united" with a man at any age."
Well...yeah that's understandable. The "united with a man" part--assuming they mean emotionally with a man of their generation. It's the petifilia that astounds me. How anybody can impregnate an underage girl (one of several) and call it the will of god is beyond me.
I'll say this though: if it truly is the will of God--then He is an evil God.
The poor girl who tipped off the police as to the evil doings of this polygamist compound (which is owned by the, Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) has either not been found, or the police have her in protective custody and have not announced it for her well-being.
She deserves unlimited praise for her incredible bravery, and I hope that if she has not been found yet, she is found soon.
